I am delighted to announce that our first Yew View owlet has hatched! Aluco left the nest in the early hours to reveal the first hatchling. There appears to be chuippings in the 2nd of the 4 eggs, so we should see the second owlet in the morning. There was a wood mouse stashed in the box, ready for its first meal.
By the afternoon, the owlet was ready for its first meal. Its eyes are closed so Aluco tears off tiny pieves of meat and brushes them against its beak, so it can feel it. You can see the 'egg tooth' on the beak. This lump is used to break out of the egg and will be readsorbed in the next few days.
Keep watching the camera and you may get a glimpse... it is addictive viewing!
