Nestbox Update 16th May

Again, I have only been able to see six chicks again, so I presume one died at some point. What I am curious about is, do the adult birds remove a dead chick? I have watched most of my footage and not seen this happen. I would imagine a dead chick in the nest box, decaying, would not be a good idea. This nest cup is so deep, a dead chick would be ‘lost’ down below these live chicks.

Here is a bit of video footage from today. This was taken from a five minute period:

Both parents are out feeding now. The female does come in, sit for a few minutes and upturns deep into the nest quite often…. still not sure what she is doing. All these 6 chicks seem to be doing well and are certainly being well fed!
